The Summer League competition had 24 team entered from 11 clubs, and these were divided into 3 divisions, consisting of 8 teams. There were 126 players (10 did not play) registered and each player was given their own individual handicap and the handicaps in turn generated an additional no of points for the player with the highest handicap. All teams played 7 matches a win being worth 2 points and a draw 1 point and in addition this year a point was awarded for each individual game. The top 2 teams in each division qualified for the finals to be played at the Almondsbury Club on Saturday 22nd September. Those teams were Almonds B, Almonds C and Nailsea B, all of whom were winners of their divisions with, Nailsea A, Knowle & Brislington B and Civil Service, as runners up in their respective divisions.Nailsea B were the only undefeated team in all the divisions. Filton Vipers won 6 of their 7 matches but lost out to Knowle by virtue of the individual games won in Division 2. There were 2 matches not completed but as they had no affect on the qualification for the finals no harm was done. The Morning session of the finals on Saturday consisted of 3 matches played as the normal summer league matches. The match between Almonds B and Knowle & Bris resulted in a draw on points with Almonds going through on the no. of individual games won 5 - 4 Almonds C played Civil service and this was a resounding win for Almonds. Marcus Berry of Civil Service said before the finals that he was not good in a handicap situation and this proved to be true with him losing all his game. Andrew Smith however who was a guest for Civil Service. won all of his matches, the only one to do so in the morning session. The 3rd match was an all Nailsea affair with Nailsea A finishing the victors on Points by 41 points and also in games 5½ to 3½ . The afternoon session was played on a league basis with each team playing 2 matches. The 3 matches though were played using 3 tables with all the players being involved throughout the afternoon either playing or scoring. This seemed to suit everyone and the whole day enjoyable as the matches were played in good spirit and also with a sense of fun albeit they all wanted to win. The outcome of the afternoon round robin matches was that Almonds B won both their matches beating Almonds C by 8 points( although Almonds C won more Games 5-4) and beating Nailsea A by 4 points (Drawing the no of individual games). Almonds C also beat Nailsea by 27 points. Almonds B therefore by virtue of beating both teams in the round robin become the 2007 BDTTA Summer league Champions. Congratulations to Dave Strattford, Pete Jones and Rick Bradford (only 1 Almonds Winter League player in the team). Aylwyn Powell – Summer League Organiser.
