Summer League Results

Summer League Finals September 19th 2009

The Summer League finals were played at Almondsbury Table tennis Club on Saturday 19th September 2009.

The morning session was 3 matches played between the top 2 teams from the 3 summer league divisions played as follows:-

Civil Service A(Div 1 winners) vs. KCC (Div 2 runners up)
Almonds C (Div 2 winners) Civil Service B (Div 3 runners up)
Page T (Div 3 winners) Filton Olympus A (Div 1 runners up)

The matches were played on the same format as the summer league with a point being awarded for a game win and 2 points for a match win on points. The outcome was that Civil Service A beat KCC 10 pts to 1 pts. (406 – 318) Civil Service B beat Almonds C 6 pts to 5 pts (380 – 352) and Page T beat Filton Olympus 6½ pts to 4½ pts (394 – 370)

The afternoon session was played on a league basis with the 3 matches being played at the same time thus meaning that each player was either playing or scoring for the 3 ¼ hours. The matches in this part of the day were played on total points scored by the team to determine the winner.

After the first 3 games had been played in each match Civil Service B were leading in both their matches with Page T leading against Civil Service A

By the end of the next 3 matches Page T had opened up a commanding lead on Civil Service A and had edged into a 16 points lead over Civil Service B but Civil service A were now beating their B team by 13 points.

We now come to the tense and last 3 matches which were to determine which team was to be the Summer League Champions 2009.

Against Civil Service A Page T were impressive with Phil only loosing to John Ratajczak by 6 points in a straight fight but with 19 points bonus winning by 13 points and Oliver lost to Bryan by just 5 points but again with a 16 points advantage won by 11 points Dave and Gary played off evens and Dave won by 5 points. Page T won overall by 76 points. it has to be mentioned that Oliver beat John Ratajczak in their match 21 – 17 21 – 17 and with his bonus points won by 29 points.

Against Civil Service B Phil Turner was held to a draw by James Goodlet (James had 22 points bonus) with Oliver, impressing again to beat Joe Ratajczak by 8 points with a 25 points bonus advantage and Dave Webber beat Mark Ratajczak by 17 points having started with a 10 points bonus. The end result was that PAGE T beat Civil service B by just 29 points and therefore became the 2009 Summer League Champions.

Civil Service A were the runners up beating their B team by just 26pts
